What are amino acids?
Known as the ‘building blocks of proteins,’ amino acids are a group of organic compounds that can be grouped into three categories: essential, nonessential and conditional.
Your body can’t produce essential amino acids on its own; this means they must be obtained through an external source such as proper diet and supplementation. Conditional amino acids are only produced under certain circumstances, such as when your body is dealing with stress or illness. The eight amino acids that belong to this group include arginine, cysteine, glutamine, glycine, ornithine, proline, serine and tyrosine.
