Amino Acids

Amino Acid Vitamins

What are amino acids?

Known as the ‘building blocks of proteins,’ amino acids are a group of organic compounds that can be grouped into three categories: essential, nonessential and conditional.

Your body can’t produce essential amino acids on its own; this means they must be obtained through an external source such as proper diet and supplementation. The nine amino acids that belong to this group include histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine.

Nonessential amino acids are mainly synthesized from glucose and produced by your body naturally. The five amino acids that belong to this group include alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid and glycine.

Conditional amino acids are only produced under certain circumstances, such as when your body is dealing with stress or illness. The eight amino acids that belong to this group include arginine, cysteine, glutamine, glycine, ornithine, proline, serine and tyrosine.

What do amino acids do for your body?

Since amino acids assist in building protein chains, they play a role in almost every part of your body and the way it functions. Because of that, there are a wide range of targeted wellness solutions. While a balanced diet can help you achieve a healthy intake of both essential and nonessential amino acids, amino acid vitamins and amino acid powder can help ensure you’re meeting your needs.
