This salt does not supply iodide, a necessary nutrient.

Gluten-Free French Fried Onions

These crispy onions are surprisingly simple to prepare, irresistibly tasty and better-for-you with dairy-free and celiac-friendly ingredients. With just a few pantry staples, you can quickly whip up these fried delights, making them the perfect topper for your Thanksgiving casserole, a juicy burger or enjoyed as a standalone snack.
Gluten-Free French Fried Onions
- 3 large onions (sliced into rings)
- 2 cups gluten-free flour
- 2 cups unsweetened coconut milk
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. sea salt (or more as needed)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil (or more as needed)
- In large bowl, mix coconut milk and lemon juice.
- Soak sliced onions in milk mixture for 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In medium bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder and sea salt.
- Add onions to bowl and coat with flour mixture.
- In large skillet, add oil and heat until temperature reaches 375 degrees F.
- Add small batches of onions to oil.
- Gently stir with tongs and cook until browned for 2-3 minutes.
- Remove and drain onions on paper towels to remove excess liquid.
