Originally from tropical Africa, the Castor plant is now cultivated in many temperate countries, with most of today’s production coming from South Asia. The versatile oil is extracted from the seeds and is an outstanding moisturizer for skin and hair.

Directions

Usage: Thick and rich, Earth’s Care Castor Oil can be diluted with other carrier oils or used in pure form. Apply as needed to rough or dry areas on the skin needing intense moisture. For the hair, apply as desired to scalp or add a few drops to shampoo before washing.

DIY Shower Steamers With Essential Oils

Use a shower steamer any time of day – when you wake up, after a workout or before bed – to create a spa-like experience in the comfort of your own home. Homemade shower steamers are often made by combining baking soda, Epsom salt, essential oils, herbs and other natural ingredients. To use, place one steamer in your shower where the water can reach it, but not where it can end up in a puddle (either on a ledge, shelf or somewhere in a corner). Once wet, the shower steamer becomes activated and releases a fragrant aroma, which can help clear sinuses and promote a sense of relaxation.

DIY Shower Steamers

If you’re a fan of multi-tasking, here’s how to reap the benefits of aromatherapy while you lather, rinse, repeat and scrub-a-dub-dub by making your own shower steamers at home. We like this breathe-easy blend to open up sinuses—especially during cold and flu season! You can, of course, add any essential oil blend of your choice. You’ll need either a mini muffin pan or silicon mold of choice (yay for fun shapes!), a fine-mist spray bottle and mixing bowl, plus the following ingredients. Ingredients 3 Tbsp. Epsom salt 1 Tbsp. castor oil 1 Tbsp. corn starch ¼ cup baking soda ¼ cup citric acid 20 drops eucalyptus essential oil 20 drops peppermint essential oil 10 drops rosemary essential oil Witch hazel Instructions 1. In mixing bowl, use hands to fully incorporate dry ingredients: Epsom salt, corn starch and baking soda. Be sure to crush any lumps. 2. Add castor oil and essential oils. Use hands to combine (wear gloves if you have sensitive skin) until mixture resembles wet sand. Note: If the mixture is too dry, use a fine mist spray bottle filled with witch hazel to moisten—two sprays at a time. 3. Test for doneness by squeezing the mixture into a clump. If it holds its shape, it’s done. 4. Firmly press mixture into mini muffin tin or silicon molds.
