This spice has been used for centuries by cultures all over the world to help aid a range of medical conditions.

Today, much of the claimed benefits lack scientific evidence, but it has been found to help lower blood sugar and cholesterol.

It has also become a popular ingredient in home remedies for a range of topical ailments, from curing acne to fighting infection; likely due to cinnamon's powerful antimicrobial properties.

Our sticks are directly sourced and processed without the use of harsh chemicals to ensure the highest level of fragrance and flavor.

Compared to being pre-ground, these sticks offer the ability to better preserve the spices flavor and aroma.

You can grind it using a number of different kitchen tools (coffee grinders work).

Cultures all over the world celebrate the novel flavor it lends to foods and utilize it for a range of medicinal purposes.

This famously flavorful spice is the most popular form of cinnamon in use today and it is derived from the cinnamonum species of trees that have long been celebrated for both culinary and medicinal properties.

This beloved spice has even played a role as a spiritual relic, such as the Hebrew Bible's account of Moses being commanded to mix cinnamon into his holy anointing oil.

The unique processing and global transportation of this tantalizing bark has been practiced for thousands of years.

Unlike many spices made from the fruits or vegetation of plants, cinnamon differs in that it is made up of the inner bark of the tree.

The process for obtaining this product is quite unique, requiring the removal of the trees outer bark, followed by scraping the inner bark, by hand, into long narrow strips, and finally allowing it to dry.

The cassia sticks have a thick layer wrapped around itself and a dark reddish color differing from the Ceylon variety which is tan in color with paper thin layers.

Using at Home
The versatility of the spice allows it to also work its flavor magic on sweet dishes such as holiday-baked goods.

Grind it and use the sticks whole.

Try soaking a few sticks whole in a bottle of whiskey.

Use it in when making your own mulling wine.

Toss a few sticks in your next pot of stew (remove before eating).

Grind some up and add to your next batch of coffee.

Slow Cooker Cinnamon Spice Apple Cider

  • 12-14 medium apples* (quartered and core removed)
  • 3 oranges (quartered)
  • 6 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 star anise
  • 1" slice fresh ginger (peeled)
  • 1 whole nutmeg
  • 12-14 cups water
  • 2/3 cup maple syrup ( or sweetener of choice)
  • 1-1/2 tsp. whole allspice (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp. whole clove (optional)
  1. In 6-quart slow cooker, combine apples, oranges and spices. Add water, leaving 1-2” space at top.
  2. Cover. Cook on low heat 6 to 8 hours or on high heat 3 to 4 hours. If apples aren’t soft and fork-tender, continue cooking until they are.
  3. Using a wooden spoon or potato masher, gently mash apples and oranges, being careful to not splash yourself.
  4. Cover. Continue cooking on low heat about 30 minutes.
  5. Using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain mixture; place liquid back in slow cooker. Discard solid parts.
  6. Stir in maple syrup or sweetener. Adjust to desired sweetness.
  7. To serve, garnish with extra cinnamon sticks, orange peel and/or apple slices.

If using a 3-4-quart slow cooker, cut ingredients in half.

*To enhance the apple flavor, use a variety of apples. I used 4 Granny Smith apples, 4 Fuji apples and 4 Gala apples.
