Oven-Baked "Fried" Green Tomatoes
This crispy comfort food is trading in bacon grease for
avocado oil and headed for the oven instead of the cast-iron skillet. That’s right, these fried green tomatoes aren’t
fried at all! This oven-baked, whole-wheat variation doesn’t compromise crunch or zest. Chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper are mixed with whole-wheat flour for full flavor. Tomato slices are double coated in breading for ample texture. Grab some firm, underripe tomatoes on your next visit to the grocery store and try these baked fried green tomatoes as a side dish, salad topper or with your favorite dipping sauce.
